Double Coaster Roller Coaster
The Double Coaster delivers a head to head racing experience, with two trains leaving the station together and running side by side from start to finish. Riders keep the rival train in sight through every twist, which turns a lap into a contest. Who arrives first changes from one run to the next, so the same attraction is worth riding twice.
What sets dueling coasters apart
On a standard coaster the thrill comes from the track alone. On a racing roller coaster it comes from the train next to you. Dueling coasters push that idea further, with layouts that bring the two trains face to face at close range, so that each group of riders sees the other passing by. The Double Coaster builds that effect into a compact footprint, where both paths share a single structure and a single station.
Master Thai at Mirabilandia, Italy's first dual tracked roller coaster, shows what the format can do. Opened in 2011, it is built as a Möbius loop: one continuous track shared by the two trains, each covering one half on the way out then the other half on the way back. The two trains race neck and neck through a jungle themed course, meeting several times along the run.
Running two trains at once also doubles the throughput of a single station, which keeps the queue moving on the busiest days. The Double Coaster is engineered to comply with country specific safety regulations, so it can be installed in different regions while meeting every local requirement. Preston & Barbieri holds international quality certifications including ISO 9001, so each installation answers to the same standards of safety and reliability.
